IAS Officer Bishnupada Sethi Clashes with CBI, Threatens Suicide Over ‘Harassment’

Bhubaneswar, 18th Feb. Senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi had a heated altercation with a CBI team on Tuesday after officials searched his residence in connection with a ₹10 lakh bribery case. Sethi, a 1995-batch IAS officer, claimed he was being falsely implicated and threatened to end his life due to loss of reputation.

The CBI team arrived at his official residence at 8 AM and allegedly seized his mobile phone while also searching his native village in Balasore. Sethi, visibly distressed, told reporters, “I am ready to resign and may commit suicide in the face of harassment.”

He accused the agency of conducting the search without local police presence and without a female officer, despite his wife being the only woman in the house. Sethi further alleged that he was being targeted due to his Dalit background, stating, “I have no political backing, and they think we are cheap people.”

CBI officials refuted claims of ill-treatment, asserting that the search was conducted as per procedure. Sethi, however, maintained that he had always cooperated with the agency and had no links with the bribery case involving Bridge and Roof Company (India) Ltd.

Meanwhile, an unverified resignation letter purportedly written by Sethi surfaced on social media, though Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja stated he had not received any official communication from him.
