Mumbai, 16th August. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray announced on Friday that he will support any candidate chosen by the Congress and NCP (SP) as the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) chief ministerial face for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

Addressing party workers of the opposition bloc MVA, Thackeray emphasized that the assembly polls represent a crucial battle to preserve Maharashtra’s self-respect.

The Maharashtra assembly elections are expected to be held in October or November. The MVA, which includes Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), and Congress, faces the challenge of unifying under a single chief ministerial candidate.

“I will back any candidate announced by Congress and NCP (SP) as the CM face of MVA,” Thackeray declared. “I don’t feel I am fighting for myself but for the rights of Maharashtra.”

Thackeray stressed the importance of deciding on the chief ministerial candidate before the elections, rather than relying on the logic of the party with the most seats. He urged MVA supporters to prioritize the state’s interests over personal ambitions and to act as ambassadors of the opposition alliance.

Additionally, Thackeray questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to Hindutva following Modi’s pitch for a secular civil code during his Independence Day address. He also criticized the Prime Minister over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, questioning why it was not passed when the BJP held a majority.
