Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 24th Oct. BJP’s Beed district chief, Rajendra Mhaske, has resigned from the party and joined the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), citing dissatisfaction over not receiving a nomination for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.
Mhaske, who left the ruling BJP on Sunday, made his move official by joining NCP (SP) on Wednesday. So far, the BJP has announced 99 candidates for the November 20 elections.
“I served as BJP’s Beed district president for five to six years and worked hard for the party’s growth,” Mhaske told PTI on Thursday. He alleged that since Ajit Pawar’s NCP became part of the ruling Mahayuti coalition, the BJP has neglected the Beed district.
Mhaske claimed that BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule had indicated he would be given a ticket for the Beed assembly segment, but instead, the BJP has allocated the entire district to the NCP.
Sandeep Kshirsagar, the current NCP (SP) MLA from Beed, has remained loyal to Sharad Pawar even after Ajit Pawar’s split from the original NCP. The elections for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly are scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
