New Delhi, 10th August. On World Lion Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to those involved in lion conservation and protection.
In a tweet thread on X, PM Modi emphasized the Union Cabinet’s approval in February 2024 to establish the International Big Cat Alliance, underscoring the Indian government’s dedication to safeguarding big cats.
“On World Lion Day, I compliment all those working on lion conservation and reiterate our commitment to protecting these majestic big cats. India, as we all know, is home to a large lion population in Gir, Gujarat. Over the years, their numbers have increased significantly, which is great news,” said Modi.
He praised the global reception of the International Big Cat Alliance, which aims to unite nations housing big cats to enhance sustainable development and community support for conservation efforts.
PM Modi also encouraged wildlife enthusiasts to visit Gir National Park to witness the conservation efforts firsthand and experience Gujarat’s renowned hospitality.
