New Delhi, 10th Dec. On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed members, emphasizing the significance of the declaration adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948.
The Chairman described the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a cornerstone of human dignity, equality, and justice, asserting that the 30 articles outlined in the document reflect humanity’s shared aspirations for freedom and equality. He highlighted that these rights apply to every individual, irrespective of race, gender, nationality, or belief.
This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” was also acknowledged by the Chairman, who emphasized the transformative power of human rights in shaping a peaceful, just, and sustainable future. The Chairman affirmed that human rights continue to play a vital role in addressing global challenges, empowering individuals, and communities.
Drawing attention to India’s advocacy for these universal principles, the Chairman reminded members that India’s rich civilizational history has contributed significantly to nurturing values of dignity and equality. He called on the representatives of the people to work towards safeguarding the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
Reflecting on the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution, the Chairman encouraged all members to renew their commitment to building a world where everyone can live with dignity, free from oppression, and with equal opportunities to achieve their potential.
