New Delhi, 6th Feb. Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a comprehensive review on Wednesday of the security audit conducted by forces along the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), emphasizing the need for a “zero infiltration” strategy moving forward. The Home Minister directed all security agencies to intensify efforts against terrorism and focus on preventing infiltration into Indian territory.
A senior official revealed that Shah had urged security forces to prioritize coordination and information sharing among agencies, leading to better synergy and operational success. In the past month, two infiltration attempts were successfully foiled due to improved cooperation between forces. In one such operation, the army eliminated two heavily armed Lashkar terrorists in Poonch district last week.
The infiltration attempts had seen a rise in Jammu and Kashmir sectors last year, with Jammu emerging as a more active theatre compared to the Kashmir sector. In response, a security audit was conducted, allowing forces to identify and address vulnerabilities along the border. The deployment strategy was revamped to close gaps, and security forces were urged to maintain vigilance.
During the meeting, the Home Minister highlighted the significant role of the narcotics trade in funding terrorism. He stressed the importance of swift action against terror financing, especially through drug trafficking channels. Additionally, Shah recommended that appointments be made to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ensure the effective implementation of new criminal laws.
The meeting, attended by key figures including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and army chief General Upendra Dwivedi, followed a recent terror attack in Kulgam, south Kashmir, where former soldier Manzoor Ahmad Wagay was killed, and his wife and niece were injured.
In light of the attack, Shah advocated for a relentless approach to dismantling the Over Ground Workers (OGW) network supporting terrorism. In response to the growing security threats, J&K police have launched a large-scale crackdown in the valley, detaining multiple individuals and conducting raids in the Noorbagh area.
