New Delhi, 4th Sept. A Memorandum of Settlement was signed on Wednesday between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) in the presence of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah.

This landmark agreement marks a significant step towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and insurgency-free Northeast India.

In his address, Amit Shah underscored the agreement’s importance, emphasizing its role in ending a 35-year-long conflict in Tripura. He praised the Modi government’s efforts to integrate the Northeast region through infrastructural development and peace initiatives. “Prime Minister Modi has not only connected Delhi with the Northeast through roads, railways, and flights but has also bridged the emotional divide,” said Shah.

The agreement, the 12th peace accord in the Northeast and the third concerning Tripura, is expected to see over 328 armed cadres from NLFT and ATTF abandon violence and reintegrate into society. This is part of a broader effort that has already seen around 10,000 insurgents lay down their arms and join the mainstream, contributing to the region’s stability and development.

The Modi administration has approved a special development package of ₹250 crore for Tripura’s tribal population, demonstrating its commitment to the region’s progress. The government aims to continue implementing agreements with sincerity, focusing on improving the quality of life and maintaining national integrity.

Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Shri Amit Shah for their roles in achieving this historic accord and fostering enduring peace and prosperity in the Northeast.

This agreement is anticipated to be a pivotal moment in the region’s journey towards stability and development, aligning with the broader goals of the Modi government to uplift and integrate the Northeast into the national framework.
