Mumbai- In a historic first, the Central Railways has operated the Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22223) from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Sainagar Shirdi with an all-women crew to mark International Women’s Day.
The special crew included a loco pilot, assistant loco pilot, train manager, ticket examiners (TCs), and train hostesses, making it a proud moment for Indian Railways. Speaking on the initiative, Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railways, highlighted that similar efforts were also being implemented in goods train operations and would be expanded to other Vande Bharat routes.
A Historic Step Towards Women’s Empowerment
Celebrating the moment, Central Railways shared a post on X, stating, “HISTORIC MOMENT! For the first time ever, a Vande Bharat Express is being fully operated by an all-women crew, departing from CSMT on this #InternationalWomensDay! A proud moment celebrating the strength, dedication, and leadership of women in Indian Railways!”
PM Modi’s Tribute to Nari Shakti
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Nari Shakti, reiterating the government’s commitment to women empowerment. Marking the occasion, he handed over his social media platforms to women achievers from various fields, showcasing their success stories.
“We bow to our Nari Shakti on #WomensDay! Our Government has always worked for empowering women, reflecting in our schemes and programmes,” PM Modi posted on X.
The all-women Vande Bharat Express operation stands as a landmark initiative, symbolizing the growing role of women in key sectors and reaffirming Indian Railways’ commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
