Hisar, 28th Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday characterized the Congress party as a “dishonest party,” urging voters in Haryana to scrutinize the grand old party’s electoral promises in neighboring Himachal Pradesh. Speaking at a Jan Ashirwad rally in Hisar city, PM Modi said, “Look at what they have done in Himachal. During polls, they spoke of lies that you cannot even imagine. After coming to power, they are escaping from their promises.”
The Prime Minister noted that residents of Himachal are now questioning Congress with “Kya hua tera vada (What happened to your promise)?” He added that the Congress is disconnected from the public, asking, “tum kaun (who are you)?”
Attacking the Congress further, PM Modi referenced the financial difficulties faced by the Himachal Pradesh government, where Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu acknowledged a two-month deferment of salaries for himself and other officials due to budgetary constraints. However, Sukhu later claimed there was no financial crisis, creating confusion among the public.
Earlier this month, Sukhu defended the salary delays as part of efforts to enforce fiscal prudence and promised timely payments moving forward. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, during a recent manifesto launch in Delhi, pledged that the Congress would end “the decade of pain” for Haryana and fulfill the aspirations of its people, with promises including a commission for farmers’ welfare and ₹2 crore for families of soldiers killed in action.
PM Modi countered these claims, asserting that under BJP governance, 24 crops are procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP), while Congress-ruled states only purchase one or two. “Can farmers trust such deceitful Congress? Haryana has faith only in BJP,” he declared.
Pushing for a “non-stop” development agenda, PM Modi stated that the people have decided to elect the BJP for a third consecutive term in Haryana. He expressed skepticism about the Congress’s ability to maintain stability due to infighting, remarking that the party’s leaders are embroiled in a struggle over who will be the chief minister, referencing Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son Deepender as key contenders.
The voting for Haryana’s 90-member assembly is set for October 5, with results to be counted on October 8.
