High-Level Committee to Select CBI Director Likely to Meet Today Evening

New Delhi, 13th May. A high-level committee to select the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director that comprises the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the leader of opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha is likely to meet on Saturday evening, sources said.

The committee can select the next director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or extend the tenure of incumbent Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, whose two-year term ends on May 25.

On May 26, 2021, Jaiswal, a 1985-batch IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre and former commissioner of the Mumbai Police, took over as the CBI chief.

The CBI director is appointed by a high-level committee comprised of the prime minister, the chief justice of India, and the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha for a two-year term. The appointment can be extended for up to five years.
