Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Life in Karnataka, Yellow Alert Issued

Bengaluru, 15th Oct. Widespread downpour since early Tuesday has disrupted normal life across central and southern Karnataka, including the state capital, Bengaluru. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials attributed the heavy rainfall to a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has warned that similar weather conditions are expected to affect the arid regions of northern Karnataka in the next 24 hours. “This situation will prevail for the next three to four days,” an official stated.
Commuters, including students and office-goers in Bengaluru, faced significant challenges due to road congestion and waterlogging in many low-lying areas. The city recorded 16 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to 8:30 am on Tuesday.
In response to the deteriorating weather conditions, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for several districts, including Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Shivamogga, and Chikkaballapura, as well as coastal Karnataka. The yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall, with expected precipitation between 6 cm and 11 cm.
