President Droupadi Murmu Celebrates NIMHANS Golden Jubilee in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, 3rd Jan. President Droupadi Murmu marked the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru on January 3, 2025.
In her address, the President lauded NIMHANS for its groundbreaking research, robust academic programs, and exceptional patient care, which have established it as a leader in mental health and neurosciences. She highlighted initiatives such as the Bellary model of community mental healthcare and the Tele MANAS platform, which has reached nearly 17 lakh people across 53 cells in India over the past two years, providing services in multiple languages.
Acknowledging the increasing global awareness around mental health, the President expressed satisfaction over the diminishing stigma and unscientific beliefs surrounding mental illnesses. She emphasized the importance of platforms like Tele MANAS and SAMVAAD in making mental health support more accessible, particularly for children and adolescents.
President Murmu also praised NIMHANS for integrating traditional practices like yoga with modern healthcare to address mental and physical well-being. She reflected on the wisdom of ancient Indian sages, underscoring the spiritual perspective on mental resilience as a guide to navigating life’s challenges.
Concluding her speech, the President emphasized that a healthy mind is the foundation of a healthy society and encouraged healthcare professionals to continue providing compassionate and high-quality mental health services.
NIMHANS, a globally recognized institution, celebrates five decades of pioneering efforts in mental health and neuroscience under the guidance of exceptional leadership and innovative practices.
