Pune, 17th Oct. In a statement on Thursday, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar asserted that the recent Haryana assembly election results, where the BJP secured a third consecutive term, will not influence the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled for November 20. Speaking at a press conference in Karad, Satara district, Pawar emphasized the significance of the Jammu and Kashmir polls, noting the global attention they receive.
Pawar remarked, “We are studying Haryana, but the results in Jammu and Kashmir are more important for the country.” He highlighted that the world community pays more attention to Jammu and Kashmir, making its electoral outcomes more consequential.
Reflecting on the Haryana polls, where the BJP won 48 of 90 seats and Congress secured 37, Pawar maintained that the results would not impact Maharashtra’s elections. He added, “As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, the results there carry more weight.”
In another discussion, Pawar praised the unveiling of the new Lady of Justice statue at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, calling it a “new direction” for the country as it features open eyes instead of the traditional blindfold and holds the Constitution instead of a sword.
Addressing concerns about the Chief Election Commission’s decision not to freeze the trumpet symbol, which the NCP (SP) had requested due to its similarity with their party symbol, Pawar expressed confidence that the enlarged image of their symbol would prevent any confusion.
On the matter of seat-sharing in the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, Pawar stated that discussions would be led by the party’s state unit chief, Jayant Patil. He also mentioned that the issue of projecting a Chief Ministerial candidate for the alliance had been resolved during a joint press conference with Uddhav Thackeray.
Pawar hinted at a larger role for Patil in the future, acknowledging his responsibility as the party’s state president.
