Chandigarh, 16th August. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday unveiled the first instalment of a ₹525 crore bonus aimed at benefiting over 5,20,000 farmers in the state. The bonus, amounting to ₹2,000 per acre, is being provided to compensate for crop losses caused by a deficit in the southwest monsoon this year.
The Chief Minister stated that the bonus funds would be deposited into farmers’ accounts within one to two days. “Our government will transfer ₹2,000 per acre to the accounts of all farmers who register on the government portal,” he said.
In addition to the bonus, CM Saini announced plans to open veterinary polyclinics in eight more districts: Panchkula, Kaithal, Karnal, Hisar, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Yamunanagar. He also revealed that all milk-producing farmers with an annual income below ₹3 lakh will be covered under an insurance scheme.
Due to significantly lower rainfall this year compared to the previous year, crop production has been adversely affected. To address these challenges, the state government decided to grant the ₹2,000 per acre bonus for all Kharif crops, including fruits, flowers, and vegetables. This measure is intended to support farmers of all scales, including those with land as small as one acre.
Earlier this month, the state Cabinet approved this bonus scheme and also decided to purchase 10 additional crops at the minimum support price (MSP), including ‘ragi’, soybean, ‘jowar’, and ‘moong’. This expansion aims to stabilize market prices, ensure a steady income for farmers, and encourage the cultivation of diverse crops. The government is already buying 14 crops at MSP.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced the waiver of outstanding canal water irrigation charges. In his Independence Day address in Kurukshetra, CM Saini also highlighted plans to fill 36,000 vacancies and noted that his government has already provided 1.44 lakh jobs to youth on merit. The administration is committed to advancing the economic and educational development of women and ensuring their safety.
Haryana is expected to hold Assembly elections by November this year.
