Ahmedabad, 18th May. Hardik Patel, Gujarat Congress Committee working president, who recently expressed discontent with the Congress state leadership, on Wednesday resigned from all party posts.
Patel tweeted, “Today I took the courage to resign from the post (Gujarat Congress Committee working president) and primary membership of the Congress Party. I am sure that my decision will be welcomed by all my colleagues and the people of Gujarat. I believe that after this step, I will be able to work truly for Gujarat in future.”
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached out to a resentful Hardik Patel to sort out differences in the party state unit ahead of state assembly elections.
Party sources had said that Rahul himself sent a message to Hardik requesting him to continue in the party. Rahul Gandhi also asked the party in charge and other leaders to talk to Hardik Patel and sort out the differences.
Rumors were widespread about Hardik Patel joining the Bharatiya Janata Party after he had praised the BJP government for revoking Article 370 and the construction of Ram Mandir.
However, Patel had issued an explanation that he is not disappointed with party leaders Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi but he was unhappy with the state leadership.
According to media reports, Hardik Patel who rose to fame in July 2015 by leading a Patidar reservation movement, is disappointed with the party leadership for a long time now.
