Gujarat Assembly Elections: Sonia, Rahul Gandhi Among Congress’ List of 40 Star Campaigners

Ahmedabad, 16th Nov. The Congress party released its list of star campaigners for the upcoming Gujarat elections on Tuesday.

Party chief Malliakrjun Kharge, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party MP Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, CMs Ashok Gehlot-Bhupesh Baghel, Sachin Pilot, Jignesh Mevani, and Kanhaiya Kumar will campaign for the grand old party ahead of the polls, according to the list released.

In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state, the Congress is getting ready to challenge the BJP with key promises including 10 lakh jobs in government and semi-government sectors, free medical care up to 10 lakh rupees, LPG cylinder at 500 rupees, and 300 units of free electricity every month.

The party, which released its manifesto on Saturday, also promised a 3,000-per-month unemployment allowance, a 2,000-per-month pension for divyangs, widows, senior citizens, and needy women, and a loan waiver of up to 3 lakh for all fishermen.

The Congress also stated in its election manifesto that it would revoke the state government’s remission granted to 11 convicts in the 2002 Bilkis Bano case, allowing their early release from prison.

Furthermore, if elected in the upcoming Gujarat elections, the party promised to rename the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera area as Sardar Patel Stadium.

Voting for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The count of votes will be held on December 8.
