New Delhi, 22nd August. The government has made it clear that there are no plans to impose charges for UPI services.
The Finance Ministry stated in a series of tweets that UPI is a digital public good with immense convenience for the public and productivity gains for the economy. The clarification came amid reports that there could be a charge for UPI transactions.
According to the Ministry, the service providers’ concerns about cost recovery must be addressed through other means.
It stated that the government provided financial support for the Digital Payment ecosystem last year and has announced the same this year in order to encourage further adoption of Digital Payments and the promotion of cost-effective and user-friendly payment platforms.
