Mumbai, 2nd Oct. Actor Govinda is reported to be out of danger a day after suffering an injury from an accidental discharge of his licensed revolver, sources confirm. Although he is recovering, the actor will remain in the hospital for further observation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam stated that the incident is being treated as an accident with no indication of foul play. “Govinda is still in the hospital, so his statement could not be recorded. His daughter’s statement has been recorded,” he added. The police confirmed that the firearm involved in the incident is Govinda’s own licensed revolver.
Authorities have not filed any charges, as the incident has only been logged in the police diary. However, questions linger regarding how the revolver discharged after reportedly falling from the actor’s hands. It has been noted that the revolver was loaded with six bullets, one of which was fired. There are concerns about why the firearm was loaded if Govinda intended to leave it at home before catching a flight. There is also speculation that the revolver’s safety mechanism may have failed.
The 60-year-old actor underwent surgery on Tuesday and is currently recovering in the intensive care unit of a private hospital. His wife, Sunita Ahuja, reassured fans, saying, “Govinda sir is fine today. He will be moved to the normal ward today. He will be discharged tomorrow or the day after. With everyone’s blessings, he has recovered. So many people are praying for him; he has such a massive fan following. Please don’t panic. He will start dancing in a few months.”
Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who treated Govinda after the accident, stated that the bullet struck him below his left knee, requiring eight to ten stitches.
