Governor Anusuiya Uikey Meets Delegation of Baiga Tribals of Kawardha District

Raipur, 31st Dec. A delegation of Baiga tribals of Kawardha district met Governor Anusuiya Uike at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum on their problems.

The delegation had not taken an earlier appointment to meet the Governor but when the Governor came to know that they had come all the way from Kabirdham district only to meet her, she called the delegation to Raj Bhavan and listened to their problems.

The Governor spoke to the Collector of Kabirdham district over telephone and discussed their demands and directed him to solve them. She directed the Collector to meet the delegation and take appropriate action on their demands and then submit a report in this regard.

Governor Uikey asked the delegation to be aware of their rights and work together for the betterment of their community. She said she always strives to protect the rights of the deprived sections.

The representatives told the Governor that a large number of Baiga tribals have not got residential leases under the Forest Rights Act. Apart from this, they are also not getting the benefit of other government schemes like Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Yojana and Kisan Samman Yojana.

Anganwadis are also not operating well in some villages. The delegation said that a proposal has been sent for inclusion of the tribal dominated area of Kawardha district in the Fifth Schedule. They said that there is no availability of drinking water in hilly areas and teachers do not come to schools. The delegation made a demand that the baigas should get special benefits in direct recruitment.

On this occasion, the convener of Adivasi Janman Adhikar Manch Chhattisgarh, Indu Netam, Anima, Lamtu Baiga, Jaya Dhruv, Chandan Dhurve and other representatives were present.
