From Paraguay to the World: Ayurveda’s Global Journey Under PM Modi’s Leadership

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on promoting Ayurveda as a global health solution received a significant spotlight during the 117th episode of Mann Ki Baat. PM Modi highlighted an inspiring initiative in Paraguay, where Ayurveda consultations at the Indian Embassy are gaining traction among locals.

He stated, “There is a country in South America called Paraguay. The number of Indians living there would not be more than one thousand. A wonderful effort is being done in Paraguay. At the Indian Embassy in Paraguay, Erica Huber offers Ayurveda Consultation. A large number of local people are reaching out to her to get Ayurveda-based advice.”
This recognition underscores the expanding footprint of Ayurveda across the globe, driven by the Ministry of Ayush’s strategic initiatives.
Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Ayush, expressed gratitude, saying, “We express our heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership in promoting Ayurveda globally. The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing Ayurveda as a universal health solution.”

Milestones in Ayurveda’s Global Expansion

  1. Global Collaborations and Research:
    The Ministry of Ayush has forged partnerships through 24 country-level and 48 institute-level Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), promoting collaborative research and education. Ayush Information Cells, operating in 39 locations across 35 countries, serve as hubs for knowledge dissemination.
  2. Strategic Agreements:
    Agreements such as the Donor Agreement with WHO and MoUs with countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, and Mauritius have strengthened Ayurveda’s global reach.
  3. Recognition by International Bodies:
    • The WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar signifies India’s leadership in traditional medicine.
    • The inclusion of traditional medicine in WHO’s ICD-11 this year marks a pivotal moment in Ayurveda’s recognition.
  4. Initiatives like Ayush Visa and Heal in India:
    These programs are facilitating medical tourism, making India a preferred destination for holistic healing.

Celebrating Ayurveda’s Success

The 9th Ayurveda Day, celebrated on October 29, 2024, across 150 countries, showcased Ayurveda’s growing global acceptance. Themed “Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health,” it underscored India’s leadership in wellness solutions.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, emphasized, “The vision of our Prime Minister and the guidance of our Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Ayush, have been pivotal in building the global acceptance of Ayush. The network of international collaborations highlights India’s leadership in traditional medicine and its relevance in global healthcare.”

Prime Minister Modi’s advocacy for Ayurveda reaffirms its role as a bridge between traditional wisdom and modern health solutions, resonating with a global audience eager for holistic wellness approaches.
