New Delhi, 3rd Feb. National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval on Sunday emphasized the importance of free thought in preventing conflicts linked to religious identities. Speaking at the release of the Hindi edition of Ahmet T. Kuru’s book Islam Authoritarianism: Underdevelopment – A Global and Historical Comparison, Doval stressed the need for conflict resolution and societal introspection.
Addressing a packed gathering at the New Delhi World Book Fair, he highlighted that the relationship between state and religion is a complex global issue, not limited to Islam. He noted that during Abbasid rule, there was clarity regarding the roles of the state and the clergy.
Former Union Minister M.J. Akbar, also present at the event, remarked that Sufism offers a practical approach as it fosters relationships that are not hostile. The book, originally written by Turkish-American scholar Ahmet T. Kuru, has been published in Hindi by the Khusro Foundation.
