Uttarkashi, 8th May: A tragic helicopter crash near Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand claimed the lives of four tourists on Thursday morning. The helicopter, carrying approximately six people, crashed en route from Dehradun to Harsil helipad. Initial reports indicate that four passengers died in the accident, while two others sustained injuries.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed the news via social media, expressing his condolences to the bereaved families. “May God grant peace to the souls of those who died in the accident and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense loss,” he wrote. Dhami further stated that he has instructed the local administration to provide all necessary assistance to the injured and to thoroughly investigate the cause of the crash. “I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard and every situation is being monitored,” he added.
The helicopter was ferrying tourists who were scheduled to travel from Harsil helipad to Gangnani, a distance of about 30 kilometers, by road. Upon receiving news of the crash, teams from the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and the district administration immediately rushed to the accident site to undertake relief and rescue operations, which are currently underway.
The District Magistrate of Uttarkashi has also proceeded to the location to oversee the rescue efforts. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the helicopter crash. Further updates are awaited as the rescue operations progress.
