Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 9th anniversary of the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing accessibility, equality, and opportunities for persons with disabilities. In his remarks, he lauded the resilience and achievements of Divyang individuals, which, he said, serve as a source of national pride.

Highlighting the transformative impact of the campaign, the Prime Minister responded to posts on social media, stating:
“Today, we mark #9YearsOfSugamyaBharat and reiterate our commitment to further boosting accessibility, equality and opportunity for our Divyang sisters and brothers.”

PM Modi also celebrated the “Can Do” spirit of persons with disabilities, citing India’s remarkable achievements in the Paralympics as an inspiring example. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and empowerment, spotlighting the historic passage of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, as a landmark step toward creating an equitable society.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi reflected on key moments of the initiative, calling them “unforgettable memories” and affirming the government’s dedication to building a barrier-free India.

Launched in 2015, the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan has been pivotal in promoting accessibility across public spaces, transport, and communication systems, fostering inclusivity for millions of Divyang citizens.
