Panaji, 3rd Oct. Pandurang Raut, the former Goa transport minister, died on Monday after a brief illness, sources close to family members said.
Raut was 76.
He had been in poor health for some time. On Monday morning, he died at his home in Bicholim, North Goa.
Until the formation of the Goa Praja Party in 2017, the former Bicholim MLA was an active member of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.
He was first elected as an MLA from Bicholim on the MGP ticket in 1989, and then again in 1999.
Between February 1991 and April 1994, he was a Cabinet minister.
Condolences were expressed by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
