Gandhinagar- President Droupadi Murmu addressed the convocation ceremony of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar on Friday, emphasizing the critical role of forensic sciences in ensuring a fair and effective justice system.
Speaking at the event, President Murmu stated that a justice-based social system is considered the strongest pillar of democracy. She stressed the importance of integrating heritage with development to build a just and progressive India. Highlighting recent advancements, she noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented several measures to enhance forensic capabilities and strengthen criminal investigations.
The President underlined the importance of inclusivity in justice delivery, urging students to ensure fair and timely justice, particularly for the weaker and disadvantaged sections of society. She encouraged forensic professionals to contribute to good governance and uphold the integrity of the legal system.
New Criminal Laws to Boost Forensic Role
President Murmu also pointed out key changes in India’s criminal laws that expand the role of forensic science in crime investigations. Under the new provisions, forensic experts are now mandated to visit crime scenes and conduct examinations in cases where the punishment exceeds seven years. Additionally, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita mandates the establishment of forensic facilities across all states in a time-bound manner.
“These legal reforms will significantly increase the demand for forensic experts, making their role crucial in ensuring justice,” she remarked.
Technology and the Future of Forensic Sciences
The President highlighted the impact of technological advancements, particularly in digital forensics and artificial intelligence, in strengthening forensic science. However, she warned that criminals are also evolving and adapting to new technologies.
“Forensic experts, along with law enforcement agencies, must remain one step ahead—more intelligent, vigilant, and prompt—to combat crime effectively,” she asserted.
Expressing confidence in NFSU’s contributions, President Murmu stated that a robust forensic system would lead to an improved conviction rate and act as a deterrent to criminal activities. She urged forensic professionals to stay updated with technological advancements and continuously upgrade their expertise to meet emerging challenges.
