Ahmedabad, 12th July. Heavy rains caused severe water logging and a flood-like situation in Ahmedabad on Monday. For the next five days, the Meteorological Department predicts light to moderate rainfall across the state.

Many districts in South Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall.

“For the next 5 days, light to moderate rainfall is expected in the entire state. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in many districts of South Gujarat, Saurashtra & Kutch. The intensity of rainfall will reduce by July 15,” said Dr Manorama Mohanty, Director, Meteorological Department.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday assured Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel of all possible assistance as heavy rains caused flood-like conditions in various areas of the state.

The Home Minister discussed the situation in the state, which arose as a result of heavy rains affecting several villages, over the phone with Gujarat Chief Minister.

“With reference to flood-like situations arising due to heavy rains in various areas of Gujarat, I have spoken to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and assured all possible help from the Modi government,” Shri Shah said in a tweet.

The Gujarat administration, State Disaster Response Force, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are all working together to provide immediate assistance to those in need, the Home Minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also assured Gujarat Chief Minister that the Centre would provide all necessary assistance, including the NDRF, to address the situation and alleviate the sufferings of those affected by the floods in the state.

According to the Gujarat CM PRO, PM Modi and Patel spoke on the phone to discuss the catastrophic circumstances brought on by the state’s widespread and intense rains.

The Gujarat Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the heavy rains that have lashed the state in the last 48 hours, particularly in the South and Central Gujarat regions, and the situation that has resulted.

Several villages in Gujarat have been cut off, prompting authorities to dispatch helicopters to rescue residents.

The floods have so far resulted in the deaths of a number of people. People are being rescued by NDRF teams. More than 2000 individuals had been rescued from several locations.

More rescue operations are underway. According to the meteorological department, Gujarat’s predicament is a result of flash floods.

In just four hours, the state received 18 inches of rain. People are currently having trouble finding even basic necessities.

Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, experienced the most July rainfall in the past five years on Sunday, receiving a record-breaking 115 mm or more in just three hours.
