FIR Against Kejriwal and AAP Leaders Over Public Property Violations

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with other party leaders, for allegedly violating the Public Property Act. The case, linked to the illegal installation of posters and banners in the Dwarka area, is currently being heard in Rouse Avenue Court, with the next hearing scheduled for April 18.

The FIR was lodged following a directive from Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal on March 11. The order came in response to a complaint filed by Shiv Kumar Saxena, who submitted visual proof in court alleging that unauthorised banners featuring Kejriwal and other AAP leaders were put up across the city. The court took serious note of the matter, stating that such illegal hoardings not only degrade the city’s aesthetics but also pose safety risks, citing past incidents where falling hoardings led to fatalities.

The case has been registered under Section 3 of the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007. Apart from Kejriwal, the court has also directed the registration of an FIR against former MLA Gulab Singh and former councillor Nitika Sharma. The Delhi Police has submitted a compliance report to the court confirming the FIR.

The matter traces back to 2019 when large hoardings were allegedly erected in Dwarka, raising concerns over the misuse of public funds. While AAP has not yet issued an official statement, the development has sparked political controversy, with opposition parties using the issue to target the party.
