FIR Against Bengaluru Mall for Denying Entry to Farmer in Dhoti

Bengaluru, 18th July. An FIR has been filed against the owner and a security guard of GT Mall in Bengaluru following an incident where an elderly farmer was barred from entering because he was wearing a dhoti, sparking widespread outrage and protests.

According to eyewitnesses, the farmer and his son were stopped at the mall entrance by security guards who cited management instructions barring entry to anyone in a dhoti. The guards allegedly insisted the farmer change into pants, causing him humiliation.

The incident gained traction after a video went viral on social media, prompting strong criticism. Farmer unions organized protests outside the mall, demanding an apology and action against the management. Kuruburu Shanthakumar, a prominent farmer leader, warned of larger protests if authorities fail to act swiftly.

“This incident is not isolated,” Shanthakumar emphasized, referencing a previous incident where another farmer faced similar discrimination on a metro train.

The BJP condemned the incident, criticizing the Congress-led Karnataka government. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla highlighted the issue on social media, accusing the government of disrespecting farmers and their traditional attire.

Reacting to the controversy, Karnataka Congress MLA NA Haris termed the incident “unacceptable,” pledging to urge the state government to intervene. “Dhoti is our traditional dress,” he asserted, calling for appropriate action against those responsible.
