New Delhi- India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 252 runs, captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a crucial 76-run knock, guiding India to victory with one over to spare. Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and KL Rahul contributed key runs in the tense chase, with Ravindra Jadeja hitting the winning runs.
Earlier, India’s bowling attack restricted New Zealand to 251 runs, with spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy playing pivotal roles. New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, who was later named Player of the Tournament, was the standout performer for his side.
Following the victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, stating, “An exceptional game and an exceptional result! Proud of our cricket team for bringing home the ICC Champions Trophy. They’ve played wonderfully through the tournament. Congratulations to our team for the splendid all-around display.”
With this win, India secured its third Champions Trophy title, having previously won in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013. This victory further strengthens India’s dominance in white-ball cricket under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
