Patna, 6th Dec. Former Bihar Minister Shivanand Tiwary has been sentenced to one year in jail in a defamation case filed by Bihar Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha. The case was filed five years ago and Tiwary has also been fined 10,000 rupees. However, he has been granted provisional bail and has 30 days to appeal the decision.
The defamation suit was filed by Jha, who is a key minister in the Nitish Kumar government, against Tiwary for making comments about his close relationship with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Tiwary, a veteran socialist leader, has known both Kumar and Jha for almost five decades and has been associated with parties led by both leaders at different times.
It is worth noting that Kumar has recently realigned with the RJD and hinted at passing on the leadership to his deputy Tejashwi Yadav, whose father Lalu Prasad is the head of the party.
