New Delhi, 16th August. The Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule for upcoming assembly elections on Friday afternoon. A press conference is scheduled for 3 pm, as per an official invite to the media. However, the invite did not specify the states for which the election dates will be revealed.
The terms of the legislative assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra are set to end on November 3 and November 26, respectively. Additionally, the poll panel is planning to conduct assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30, following a Supreme Court directive.
The Election Commission has recently conducted visits to Jammu and Kashmir as well as Haryana to assess poll preparedness. A visit to Maharashtra is yet to be made.
