Lucknow, 28th August.
In a significant move, the names of eight railway stations in Uttar Pradesh have been officially changed, with the new names honoring saints and freedom fighters. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the North Eastern Railway’s Lucknow Division.

According to the order issued by North Eastern Railway, the renamed stations include Jayas Railway Station, Akbarpur Railway Station, Fursatganj Railway Station, Warisganj Halt Railway Station, Nihalgarh Railway Station, Bani Railway Station, Misrauli Railway Station, and Kasimpur Halt Railway Station.

The new names are as follows:

  1. Kasimpur Halt Railway Station is now named Jayas City Railway Station.
  2. Jayas Railway Station is renamed Guru Gorakhnath Dham.
  3. Misrauli Railway Station is renamed Maa Kalikan Dham.
  4. Bani Railway Station is now Swami Paramhans.
  5. Akbarpur Railway Station is renamed Maa Ahorwa Bhawani Dham.
  6. Fursatganj Railway Station is now Tapeshwar Dham.
  7. Warisganj Halt Station is named after Amar Shahid Bhale Sultan.
  8. Nihalgarh Station has been renamed Maharaja Bijli Pasi Railway Station.

The renaming is in response to a demand by former Amethi MP and BJP leader Smriti Irani, who had advocated for preserving the cultural identity and heritage of these locations.

A senior railway official explained that the renaming of Jayas Station to Guru Gorakhnath Dham was proposed due to the presence of the Guru Gorakhnath Dham Ashram nearby.
The official further elaborated that Misrauli, Bani, Akbarpur, and Fursatganj stations are located near temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali, influencing their new names. Nihalgarh, with a significant Pasi community, now honors Maharaja Bijli Pasi, a prominent figure in the region.

Warisganj has been named after Bhale Sultan, celebrated for his bravery in the 1857 struggle against British colonialists.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has questioned the renaming decision, criticizing the Yogi Adityanath government for focusing on name changes rather than improving station conditions and addressing rail safety issues.
