Kolkata, 2nd August.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Anisur Rehman, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) president of Deganga block in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, in connection with a multi-crore ration distribution scam.

Rehman and his elder brother were detained late Thursday after nearly 14 hours of questioning at the ED’s Kolkata office.

The arrest comes as part of the ongoing investigation into the scam, which has already seen former state forest minister Jyotipriyo Mallick taken into custody by the ED. Rehman had been closely associated with Mallick, according to ED sources.

Following the arrests, the ED has summoned Barik Biswas, a rice mill owner and another associate of Mallick, for questioning.

On Tuesday, the ED conducted raids at Biswas’s residences and rice mill, seizing over Rs 40 lakh in cash and documents related to his investments in the UAE. Rehman and his brother will be produced in court after medical examinations, officials said.
