New Delhi, 6th May. The Election Commission has directed the immediate transfer of Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) KV Rajendranath Reddy, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The poll authority has instructed the state government to furnish the names of three eligible Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the rank of Director General by Monday to fill the vacated position.
While the precise rationale behind the Election Commission’s decision remains undisclosed, the timing of the move, amid preparations for simultaneous elections to the 175-member assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh on May 13, adds intrigue.
The forthcoming polls in Andhra Pradesh hold significant political implications, with various parties vying for supremacy in both the state assembly and the parliamentary constituencies. With votes set to be counted on June 4, the transfer of the DGP underscores the Election Commission’s proactive measures to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process in the state.
