New Delhi, 17th April.
The Election Commission has issued directives to social media platform X to remove specific posts from the YSR Congress, AAP, N Chandrababu Naidu, and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for violating the model code of conduct.

X announced this decision today, highlighting the actions taken following orders from the poll panel.

The orders, issued on April 2 and April 3, were followed up with an email from the Election Commission on April 10, emphasizing the importance of compliance with the “voluntary code of ethics.” Failure to remove the reported posts could result in a breach of this code.

X revealed that the Election Commission of India mandated the removal of posts containing political speech shared by elected politicians, political parties, and candidates for office. The objectionable content was found to contravene the model code of conduct, which prohibits the criticism of political parties based on aspects of private life unrelated to public activities or unverified allegations.

“In compliance with the orders, we have withheld these posts for the remainder of the election period. However, we disagree with these actions and maintain that freedom of expression should extend to these posts and political speech in general,” stated X.

The affected users have been notified of the action taken. In the interest of transparency, X has announced its intention to publish the takedown orders.

Additionally, X has called on the Election Commission to publish all future takedown orders, promoting transparency in the electoral process.
