EAM Jaishankar expresses condolences to the family of an Indian student who was killed in Canada

According to police, a 21-year-old Indian student was killed after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds during a shooting at the entrance of a subway station in Canada’s Toronto city while on his way to work.

Kartik Vasudev, the victim, was shot on Thursday evening at the Glen Road entrance to Sherbourne TTC station in St James Town.
Vasudev was treated by an off-duty paramedic and taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to a statement from the Toronto Police Service.
The investigation has been taken over by the Toronto Police Service’s homicide squad.

According to police, investigators would like to speak with any witnesses who were in the area at the time, as well as any drivers or businesses who have camera footage.

We are shocked and distressed by the tragic death of Indian student Kartik Vasudev in a shooting incident in Toronto yesterday, wrote the Consulate General of India in a statement posted on Twitter on Friday.
“We are in contact with the family and will assist in the early repatriation of mortal remains,” it said.
S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, expressed his condolences over the killing.

Vasudev’s brother told the CP24 news channel that he was a Seneca College student who was riding the subway to work when he was killed.

In January, he arrived in Canada.

Vasudev was enrolled in Seneca College’s marketing management programme, according to the school.
“The Seneca community is saddened to learn of Kartik Vasudev’s tragic death as a first-semester Marketing Management student,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“Our hearts go out to Mr Vasudev’s family, friends, and classmates. Counseling services are available to students and employees.”

According to police, the suspect in the shooting is a Black male with a medium build who stands five-foot-six to five-foot-seven inches tall.

According to the news channel, he was last seen carrying a handgun and walking south on Glen Road toward Howard Street.
