New Delhi, 19th April. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to address the situation in war-torn Sudan.

India is keenly monitoring the situation in Sudan, particularly in view of its concerns for Indians living in the African country.

Jaishankar stated that he discussed the situation in Sudan with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan over the phone.

“Thank HH @ABZayed, Foreign Minister of UAE, for the exchange of views on the situation in Sudan. Our continuing contacts are helpful,” the external affairs minister tweeted.

For the past six days, Sudan has seen violent conflict between the country’s army and a paramilitary group, which has reportedly killed around 100 people.

In reference to his phone conversations with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, Mr Jaishankar stated that both parties will keep in touch.

“Appreciated his assessment of the Sudan situation. Will remain in close touch,” he said on Twitter.

The Indian embassy in Sudan issued a new advisory on Monday, urging Indians not to leave their homes and to remain calm.

According to the embassy, an Indian national died in Khartoum on Sunday after being shot.

In view of the current situation in Sudan, the ministry of external affairs has already established a 24-hour control room to provide information and help.

Sudan’s military seized power in an October 2021 coup and has ruled the country under a sovereign council since then.

The Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have clashed over a projected schedule for turning over authority to a civilian government.
