EAM Jaishankar Discusses Pahalgam Attack with Greek Counterpart, Appreciates Anti-Terrorism Stance

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with his Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis, on Tuesday to discuss the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Jaishankar also expressed his appreciation for Greece’s “firm opposition” to cross-border terrorism.

In a post on X, Jaishankar conveyed, “A good conversation with FM George Gerapetritis of Greece. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcome Greece’s firm opposition to cross-border terrorism. Our Strategic Partnership reflects the depth of our ties.”

The terrorist attack in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, on April 22 resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 people and left several others injured. Following the incident, India has initiated strong countermeasures against Pakistan, accusing it of supporting cross-border terrorism.

In a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 23, India decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance until Pakistan demonstrably ceases its support for cross-border terrorism and closes the Attari Check Post.

Furthermore, India has declared officials of the Pakistani High Commission persona non grata, ordering their expulsion within a week. The government has also cancelled all visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) and directed Pakistani officials to leave the country within 48 hours. Visa services for Pakistani nationals have been immediately suspended, and all existing valid visas issued to them by India stand revoked as of April 27, 2025, according to a Ministry of External Affairs press release.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the nation that the perpetrators and conspirators of the Pahalgam attack will face severe consequences. Speaking in Madhubani, Bihar, on April 24, PM Modi asserted, “The terrorists responsible for this attack, along with those who conspired it, will face punishment beyond their imagination,” emphasizing India’s resolve to eradicate terrorism.

“The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the backbone of the perpetrators of terror,” the Prime Minister stated. He further vowed, “We will identify, track, and punish every terrorist, their handlers, and their backers, pursuing them to the ends of the earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism, and terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure justice is served, and the entire nation is firm in this resolve against terrorism.”

PM Modi also affirmed the global solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism, stating that “everyone who believes in humanity stands with India during these times.”
