Shimla, 26th Dec. Drunk tourists in Himachal Pradesh will no longer be sent to jail, but rather taken back to their hotels, said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday.
The aim of this gesture is to promote tourism in the state, which is experiencing a high number of visitors during the Christmas and New Year season.
To accommodate tourists, the state government has decided to keep hotels, restaurants, and dhabas open 24 hours a day.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the weeklong Winter Carnival in Shimla to further boost tourism. He emphasized the importance of following rules and regulations and assured that drunken tourists will be sent back to their hotels instead of being detained.
The Carnival will be an annual event in Shimla. Many tourists have expressed their enjoyment of the traditional folk dances and the festive atmosphere.
Folklore artists are delighted to have a platform to perform in front of both domestic and international tourists. They see the Winter Carnival as a great opportunity to showcase the region’s traditional art.
After a period of limited opportunities due to the pandemic and natural disasters, the artists are grateful for the festive season and the large number of people attending the carnival.
