Chandigarh, 28th August. Air traffic at Punjab’s Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport was disrupted for three hours on Monday night due to a drone sighting. According to the Airport Authority, drone activity was observed between 10:15 PM and 11:00 PM, leading to a temporary halt in flight operations.
As a result of the incident, an Air India flight from Delhi had to remain airborne for 20 minutes before finally landing at Amritsar Airport at 4:00 AM on Tuesday. Several other flights also faced delays.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, police and other agencies immediately launched a search operation at the airport, though no drones were recovered during the sweep. Reports indicate that a total of three drones were spotted at the airport, with two seen near the boundary and the backside of the terminal. As a precautionary measure, flight operations were suspended, and the airport was placed on alert.
This marks the first reported incident of drone movement in Punjab, and an investigation is currently underway. The Airport Authority has confirmed that measures are being implemented to control the situation and prevent similar incidents in the future.
