Kanpur, 24th April.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)’s Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE) in Kanpur has unveiled the lightest Bullet Proof Jacket in the country, offering protection against the formidable 7.62 x 54 R API ammunition, classified as Level 6 of BIS 17051.

Recently, this groundbreaking innovation underwent rigorous testing at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) in Chandigarh, as per the standards outlined in BIS 17051-2018. The successful testing demonstrated the jacket’s resilience and effectiveness against the specified threat level.

This cutting-edge bulletproof jacket is the result of a novel design approach, incorporating innovative materials and manufacturing processes. The front Hard Armour Panel (HAP) of the jacket has proven its capability to withstand multiple hits (up to 06 shots) of the 7.62 x 54 R API, commonly known as Sniper rounds, in both In-conjunction with (ICW) and Standalone configurations.

The front HAP is engineered with an ergonomically designed monolithic ceramic plate, reinforced with a polymer backing, enhancing not only the protective capabilities but also the wearer’s comfort and mobility during operational deployment.

Notably, the areal density of the ICW Hard Armour Panel (HAP) and standalone HAP is impressively less than 40 kg/m² and 43 kg/m², respectively, ensuring lightweight and maneuverability without compromising on protection.

Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO extended hearty congratulations to DMSRDE for achieving this remarkable milestone in developing the lightest bulletproof jacket capable of providing unparalleled protection against the highest threat levels.
