New Delhi, 3rd May. There is now a great attempt being made to conduct a deceptive discourse at a very quick speed in the nation’s election environment. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party in particular are attempting to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in opposition.
He attempted to bring up the caste enumeration problem first, but it was unsuccessful. Earlier, an attempt was made to run the Adani Ambani issue, but it was unsuccessful. The wealthy had their loans forgiven, and they attempted to bring up the matter. Other than that, he continued attempting each problem one at a time, without success. Now they feel that this time the Bharatiya Janata Party has given a 400-pass slogan – raise questions about it, and create doubt on their intentions. Create doubt in the minds of people as to why they want 400. They want to exceed 400 so that they can destroy the Constitution. So that the reservation can be abolished. A perception is being created that the Constitution means only reservation. The Constitution does not just mean reservation. There are many things in the Constitution. There are fundamental rights of the people which if you remember were abolished by the Congress Party in 1975. The right to live was also taken away. At that time Indira Gandhi did not have numbers beyond 400. Congress had 352 seats. In the 2019 elections, Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies got 353 seats.
In 1975, Indira Gandhi tampered with the basic structure of the Constitution and made changes in it. At that time, the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court had already decided on the basic structure of the Kesavananda Bharati case that the Constitution can be amended but there cannot be any change in the basic structure of the Constitution. Despite this, Indira Gandhi did this. The country saw what effect it had and how the public reacted. That’s all a matter of history.
Now, the question is whether the opposition is talking about this matter. Take into consideration a few facts beforehand. The argument put out by the opposition was that 400 votes are needed to amend the Constitution. First of all, it is untrue that the Constitution can only be altered once the number surpasses 400. It is inaccurate. To elaborate a bit, the Bharatiya Janata Party was aware of the opposition’s intended course of action. Thus, in response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked, “Why are you asking for 400 crosses?” during the Madhya Pradesh rally.
“More than 400 seats are needed because of your evil intention to give reservations to tribal people, Dalits, and extremely backward classes,” he remarked. Muslims should have fewer rights in order to make room for them. More than 400 are needed in order to make arrangements that will totally thwart your plan and prevent you from ever being able to carry it out.
What the opposition is attempting to argue is not supported by Modi’s explanation. It’s actually the reverse. He reversed the situation, in a sense. However, reservations are a very delicate matter. When the topic of reservations is handled in this manner, individuals tend to think emotionally rather than logically. Additionally, non-BJP parties quickly point to the 2015 Bihar assembly elections as an example. There are others who claim that the BJP’s poor performance in the elections was caused by the remarks made by Sarsanghchalak about the review of reservations. The 2015 elections were a loss for the BJP.
It is a false perception, that the BJP lost the election as a result of such a statement. BJP would have been defeated even if he had not made that statement. Even if it had received an additional five to seven seats, the outcome would have been minimal. Nitish Kumar’s participation in the Grand Alliance was the only thing that could have prevented the BJP from winning the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. Consider this: Would the BJP have lost even if Nitish Kumar had been in the NDA rather than the Grand Alliance? That would not have happened.
In Bihar politics, Nitish Kumar acts as a counterbalance. The circle he is in will grow dense. The last 25 years’ politics have proven this. As Nitish Kumar came along, the Grand Alliance benefited from favorable economic conditions. Not Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat’s speech, but Nitish Kumar’s departure from the NDA was the biggest surprise and loss for the BJP. Since 2005, when Nitish Kumar has consistently supported the RJD, the party has won; conversely, whenever he has supported the BJP, the party has won.
The NDA has won more elections than the BJP, if he had supported the party longer. First things first, if he was a member of the Grand Alliance only once in 2015 and the Grand Alliance prevailed. The second point to be aware of is that, critics continue to view the Bharatiya Janata Party’s voter and support base as belonging to the BJP prior to 2014. Until 2014, members of the upper castes made up the majority of the BJP’s voters. The BJP in 2014 was very different from what it is today. Its base of support has shifted. There has been a change in the party’s character. When Narendra Modi was announced as the Prime Ministerial candidate in 2013, this social revolution got underway. The outcome surfaced in 2014 and reappeared in 2019.
Thirty years later, in 1984, the Bharatiya Janata Party became the only national party to secure an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha. Since the majority of its supporters were from higher castes, it did not receive the entire majority. It received an absolute majority twice. The number of seats rose even further the second time. This occurred as a result of the severely backward class, the non-Jatav Dalit group, and the tribal population joining forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The attempts to split it by the Congress, BSP, SP, and RJD were unsuccessful.
Due to their continued belief that the upper caste still makes up the majority of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s support, the Congress is criticising the BJP over reservations. Since the higher castes oppose reservation, it will be acceptable if they claim that the BJP is trying to abolish it. However, Narendra Modi has demonstrated by his work over the past ten years that this is unlikely to happen. Throughout the ten years of the UPA government led by Congress, the public witnessed the party’s attempts to lower the reservation quota for Dalits and members of the lower classes. Karnataka is the proof of that. The four times it was attempted in Andhra Pradesh. Both the Supreme Court and the High Court rejected them, but the Congress Party did not back down.
The Congress Party wants to grant Muslims a portion of the reservation quota that is currently allocated to Dalits and other lower-class people. The Congress Party has counterattacked, claiming that the BJP wants to eliminate the reservation, in an effort to preserve this and prevent the BJP from being confrontational on this topic. During the ten years of the Modi administration and the six years of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration prior to that, the BJP made no mention of eliminating reservations. Overall, there isn’t a single instance from the BJP’s 16 years in power where they have attempted to achieve this.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, on the other hand, has provided severely backward, Dalit, and tribal group members greater room within the party than in the past and public participation, whether in the Legislative Assembly, local bodies, Gram Panchayat, or Lok Sabha. Other than that, granted a portion of authority. They were therefore granted additional privileges in addition to reservations, which were made possible by social harmony. The more significant issue is how this class has benefited from government programs over the past ten years of government. In this category, Dalits, tribal communities, and the lower classes comprise the majority of recipients. They are aware that the BJP executed this action.
Ram and Ration have become synonymous in contemporary society thanks to BJP. Congress and its other opposition will find it extremely difficult to break this combo of Ram and Ration. With impunity, the Congress party is pursuing an anti-Hindu campaign. Whether it is the deeply backward class, the dalit or the tribal community, the Bharatiya Janata Party has elucidated the situation and acknowledged that it too has a stake in Hindutva. Therefore, any authority that opposes Hindutva will not be tolerated in this society. This was also evident at the Ram Temple’s consecration ceremony.
