New Delhi, 21st Nov: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Thursday encouraged students to pursue their goals with passion and dedication, without being fixated on outcomes. He was interacting with students at the Delhi School of Economics after delivering the VKRV Rao Memorial Lecture.
“Do your Karma, do it with passion, and the dots will connect,” Malhotra told students, echoing the philosophy of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Responding to a student who asked for guidance on becoming the RBI Governor, he emphasised that such achievements cannot be planned in advance.
“I was asked the same question when I went to my own alma mater, IIT Kanpur. And so, I said that this is something that you can’t actually, going forward, predict. So do your Karma. As Steve Jobs said, the dots will connect only when you look backwards,” he noted.
Malhotra underscored that hard work, learning, and questioning the status quo shape success. This is the second time in recent months that he highlighted the role of karma while addressing students.
The Governor, an IAS officer from the 1990 batch (Rajasthan cadre), holds a Computer Science degree from IIT Kanpur and a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University. He assumed office as the 26th Governor of the RBI on December 11, 2024, after serving as Secretary in the Department of Revenue under the Finance Ministry.
