New Delhi, 5th Sept. India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has launched an investigation after a part of an aircraft engine was found outside Delhi airport, sources revealed on Wednesday. The metal piece is suspected to belong to an Air India Express aircraft that made an emergency landing at the airport on Monday, though the airline has yet to confirm this.
Sources close to the matter stated that the recovered part is likely a broken blade from an aircraft engine. The flight in question was bound for Bahrain but had to make a precautionary landing in Delhi following the incident.
“The situation was managed as per protocol, and a precautionary landing was conducted,” an Air India Express spokesperson said, adding that the case has been reported to relevant authorities and remains under investigation.
Reports of metal pieces falling in the Shankar Vihar area surfaced after a call from Army Captain Shivani Pathak, who claimed that fragments fell from an aircraft over her house. She provided a small piece of black metal to the police.
A technical team will determine if the part belongs to the same aircraft, and the police are conducting a parallel investigation.
