Delhi’s Air Quality Remains ‘Very Poor,’ with an AQI of 301

New Delhi, 12th Dec. The national capital’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Monday, with an AQI of 301.

The AQI in the vicinity of Delhi University was 314. As the temperature dropped in the nation’s capital, so did the smog. The air quality in the NCR region peaked in Noida, with an AQI of 351. Gurugram’s AQI was recorded at 156.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) decided on December 7 to revoke Stage III of the GRAP in the entire NCR immediately after Delhi’s overall air quality improved.

On December 7, the CAQM, a Union government panel that recommends steps to control air pollution in the national capital, presided over a meeting to review air quality in Delhi-NCR.

It put out a release saying, “As the AQI in Delhi has slipped into the ‘severe’ category, the sub-committee had decided that all actions, as envisaged under Stage III of the GRAP, be implemented in right earnest by all the agencies concerned, with immediate effect in the NCR, in addition to all action under Stage I and Stage II of the GRAP.”

As part of its Graded Response Action Plan, the CAQM announced a temporary ban on construction and demolition activities in Delhi-NCR on December 4. (GRAP). The announcement came after the air quality in Delhi and the national capital region was classified as ‘severe.’

The Air Quality Index from 0 to 100 is considered good, while 100 to 200 is considered moderate, 200 to 300 is considered poor, 300 to 400 is considered very poor, and 400 to 500 or higher is considered severe.
