New Delhi, 25th Dec. With the Delhi Assembly elections drawing near, political parties are finalizing their strategies. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already announced candidates for all seats, while Congress has declared its candidates for 47 constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, is still deliberating, with no official announcements regarding its candidates yet. Speculation suggests that BJP might reveal its list in the coming days.
Congress has already declared its candidates for prominent contests, including a challenge to Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Former Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Farhad Suri, has been fielded against Sisodia from the Jangpura constituency. However, the major suspense remains over Congress’s candidate against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Initially, there was strong speculation that Congress might field Alka Lamba against Atishi, but her name was absent from the second list of candidates released on December 25.
The delay in naming a candidate for the Kalka Ji seat, represented by Atishi, has left the situation unclear. Despite internal discussions, Congress has yet to finalize its decision on whether Alka Lamba, who was initially reluctant to contest from Kalka Ji, will be fielded. Lamba, who previously served with AAP before returning to Congress, could potentially be given the nod, but this remains uncertain.
Sources suggest that Congress may still be evaluating the best candidate to challenge Atishi in Kalka Ji, with party leaders like Rahul Gandhi closely monitoring the situation. Until the official announcement is made, the suspense continues over Congress’s final strategy.
