New Delhi: In a move aimed at ensuring hassle-free commuting for cricket enthusiasts during the upcoming T20 Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced extended train timings on all its corridors, including the Airport Express Line.
According to a press release, the revised schedule will be in effect on April 13, 16, 27, 29, and May 11 — the dates on which matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Feroz Shah Kotla Ground), New Delhi. The stadium is located near the Delhi Gate and ITO Metro stations on the Violet Line.
To accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic after the matches, DMRC will operate 76 additional train trips on each of these match days by extending the last train departure by 1 to 2 hours across all Metro lines. The initiative is intended to facilitate a smooth dispersal of spectators late at night, enhancing the overall commuting experience for fans.
Meanwhile, DMRC has also introduced a new, affordable lodging option at the New Delhi Metro Station — a pod-style hotel named ‘The Metrostay’. Launched on April 6, the facility caters especially to transit passengers, including those using the Airport Express Line and New Delhi Railway Station.
With dormitory-style rooms starting at just ₹400, The Metrostay offers cozy bunk beds, digital lockers, co-working spaces, and a games area featuring indoor activities such as carrom and a mini-theatre for live screenings and movies. Importantly, the hotel features separate dormitories and washroom facilities for women, ensuring comfort and safety for female travelers.
Speaking about the facility, store manager Altamash shared, “This pod hotel started in January. There are around 150 dormitory beds available. People can register through Goibibo or walk in directly. We also have theatre, lounge, game zones, and are working on launching private rooms soon.”
With both improved match-day Metro services and innovative commuter-friendly lodging options, Delhi Metro continues to redefine urban travel convenience in the national capital.
