New Delhi, 21st Jan.
In a bid to ensure better working conditions and support for journalists, a group of journalists in Delhi has urged major political parties—Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress—to incorporate key demands in their respective election manifestos. These demands aim to address the welfare of journalists and their families in the capital.

The journalists’ key requests are:

  1. Provision of comprehensive medical benefits for journalists and their families, akin to the benefits offered to Class I gazetted officers in 1995.
  2. Monthly support of at least ₹20,000 for journalists aged 60 years and above.
  3. Establishment of a Delhi Media Club at the ITO area, where the media office was located in 1994.
  4. Recognition of digital media and radio journalists by the Delhi government.
  5. Free travel facilities in the Delhi Metro, with a minimum limit of ₹1,000 per month, as well as continued travel concessions for rail travel, similar to previous benefits.

The journalists have urged fellow colleagues to reach out to senior leaders of the AAP, BJP, and Congress to ensure these demands are heard and included in the upcoming political agendas. This move is seen as a collective effort to improve the working environment and security of journalists, while recognizing their crucial role in the democratic framework.
