New Delhi, 28th Nov.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the AAP government to respond to a petition filed by seven BJP MPs, seeking the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the national capital.

A bench led by Chief Justice Manmohan issued notices to the Delhi government, the Centre, and the Lieutenant Governor (LG) regarding the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the MPs.

The bench, which also included Justice Manmeet PS Arora, granted time to the respondents to file their replies and scheduled the next hearing for December 11.

In their PIL, the petitioners – Harsh Malhotra, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Praveen Khandelwal, Yogendra Chandolia, Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and Bansuri Swaraj – argued that Delhi residents were facing high out-of-pocket medical expenses, forcing many to sell assets or borrow money in medical emergencies.

The petitioners pointed out that Delhi is the only Union Territory where the AB-PMJAY scheme, which provides up to Rs 5 lakh in healthcare coverage for the underprivileged, has not been implemented, leaving citizens without essential health coverage.

Appearing for the petitioners, Swaraj emphasized that political ideologies should not hinder the welfare of Delhi’s residents, urging the court to direct the Delhi government to implement the healthcare scheme.
