Delhi HC Judge Transferred After Cash Stash Found in Bungalow

New Delhi- The Supreme Court Collegium has decided to transfer Justice Yashwant Verma from the Delhi High Court back to the Allahabad High Court following the discovery of a large sum of unaccounted cash at his official bungalow last week during the Holi vacation, sources revealed.

The cash came to light after a fire broke out at Justice Verma’s residence. Family members, in his absence, alerted emergency services, which then informed the police. As the matter escalated through official channels, the Collegium, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, took a serious view of the incident and unanimously agreed on Justice Verma’s transfer.

Justice Verma has not yet responded to the allegations or the discovery of the cash. Sources indicate that while the transfer has been confirmed, some Collegium members believe stricter action may be warranted to uphold the judiciary’s integrity. Discussions reportedly included the possibility of requesting Justice Verma’s resignation.

If Justice Verma refuses to step down, the Chief Justice may initiate an internal inquiry as a precursor to possible removal by Parliament. According to established guidelines, such inquiries involve a committee comprising one Supreme Court judge and two High Court Chief Justices. Should the findings point to grave misconduct, the Chief Justice could recommend parliamentary action under Article 124(4) of the Constitution.
